Overview

After setting up PiHole, I wanted to securely access my home network from anywhere. PiVPN + WireGuard was the perfect combo: light, secure, and easy to set up on a Raspberry Pi.

Why I Built It

I needed a way to connect to my network while traveling, without opening myself up to risks. WireGuard is super fast and simple compared to old-school VPNs, and PiVPN makes the install painless.

How It Works

• Runs alongside PiHole on a Raspberry Pi
• Creates a private, encrypted tunnel to my home network
• Lets me browse safely and access devices/files from anywhere

Key Lessons Learned

• VPN basics and the difference between OpenVPN and WireGuard
• Port forwarding, firewalls, and dynamic DNS
• Configuring multiple devices (PC, phone, tablet) to connect seamlessly
